MSI GT780DX-406US: a gaming laptop that’s fast and good looking. And heavy.
Many reviews remark on how cool this MSI GT780DX-406US laptop is compared to other gaming machines. Even after 6 hours running the latest heavy weight games, it stays cool, pumping hot air out the left side away from the player.
The CPU only has a 6mb cache and a 2.2 ghz base clock rate but it outruns better spec-ed desktop machines and still stays reasonably quiet.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M is a great graphics card that can run heavy games on maximum settings in full 1080p.
The MSI GT780DX-406US is a gaming laptop that suits college students who want a gaming PC but really need more mobility and flexibility with their studies PC.

Pros:
- Sleek design looks great with excellent styling and plenty of flashy lights.
- Novices can expect painless software initial setup.
- Outstanding performance. There are irritations with some aspects of the GT780DX-406US but power is not one of them. Eats up games that strangle bigger overclocked desktop machines without fps dropping below 30.
- Screen has no glare — outputs to HDTVs with impressive audio and video.
- Backlit color-changeable keyboard is fun to configure, suits late night gaming sessions, feels sturdy and dependable but has other negatives (see Cons).
- Cooling seems to impress all users.
- Sound quality better than most laptops, includes a mini sub-woofer.
Cons:
- Heavy, but what do you expect from this monster laptop.
- Touchpad can be slow, and unresponsive and many people complained bitterly about it. If yours is like that, you may need to chase MSI hard — but they will fix it.
- The keyboard is an entertaining plus for most owners but others were unhappy. Keys are not individually color programmable, but MSI favors their special 3 separate regions. Some users regret no full backlight keyboard to help during bootup.
- Wireless NIC is below par. Some would prefer a reduction from 12GB of RAM (which is perhaps more than is needed) to allow better than 2.4Ghz and 20MHz…
- …or Win7 Ultimate instead of Home.
- Transfer rates between computers are around 3-5MB/sec and that is lower than old machines can still do today.
- As an actual laptop on your lap, cooling ridges are uncomfortable.
- Caps lock light is hard to find or non-existent.
- User manual below average.
- Complaints with finish details on some machines where trim plate pops up and interferes with the spacebar.
- Lacks physical button to open disk tray — software controlled.
