From the EU site of MSI:

For audio, I believe you can use Realtek’s HD Audio drivers, available here:

How do I turn on bluetooth on MSi Laptop?

I have searched for it in the control panel, there is no blue icon anywhere to be found. However, there’s a LCD light that’s turned off with the icon labeled as bluetooth.
My laptop is MSi-1683 and recently had to reinstall the OS[windows 7]. I looked for the software, and reinstalled it. How do I get this to work?

danielday answers:

Try using the windows search and type in ” bluetooth” see what comes up , you may be able to activate it from something in the list if the driver is on the system.
Check in your device manager for any hardware that has an exclamation mark, this means the driver is not installed. So if the bluetooth driver is already in the list then it IS installed already.
Try downloading a driver from msi and installing. If there is a switch on the laptop for the bluetooth then turn it to the on position. See your operating manual.

Should I Send My Laptop for Repairs?

Hi,

My laptop is a little over 3 years old. Yesterday I switched it off by pressing the ON button for over 10 sec and when I tried to switch it back on it doesn’t work. It gets to the laptop brand name screen and then a black screen and thats it.

Spec: MSI GX600, 2GB RAM, 160 GB Hard disk, Geforce 8600GT, Core 2 Duo 1.86 Ghz, etc etc.

Its definitely NOT the harddrive that is causing the problem because I tried switching it with a new one and it still didn’t work. Is it worth sending to get fixed or just purchasing a new laptop? Any ideas as to what the problem is?

10 points to best answer!
Thanks in advance

Try to see if you can get to the BIOS and change it to boot to CD drive first (it may already try to boot from CD so perhaps nothing need to be done), and then pop in CD come with the laptop and try to recover/rescue? There could be many reasons. Could be something as simple as replacing the tiny battery powering the CMOS. You PC still worth $300 when new so if you can spend less than half of that to get it fixed its worth it. You next PC might be a tablet like ipad so you should try to hold down to this as long as you can.

Laptop Wont Boot Operating System?

I have a brand new laptop which started up normally on first use. After I installed AVG 9.0 antivirus it asked me to restart the system. When I restarted the system started loading windows 7 for about 1 second before entering startup repair. Startup repair found a problem and “fixed” it.
Now my system wont load the OS. It shows me the run recovery, enter setup e.t.c by pressing the appropriate key (f3, f11, del e.t.c) screen. After which instead of saying starting windows it only stays blank but the LCD is on. The HDD light shows no activity. System recovery works to startup but now everytime I turn off the system it repeats the process. I have windows 7 and the MSI CX500
Startup repair and system restore did not help only recovery. Why does the antivirus corrupt my system. It never corrupted any of my other systems.
Thanks for the info but I fixed it by changing my hard drive to number 1 in boot device priority (or something like that) in the setup. I don’t know why this should have affected the booting though as once it cannot detect a cd in the dvd drive (which was first at the time the problem occured) it should automatically switch to boot from the second device in the list but for some reason it didn’t

Hi,

It would appear that the installation of the anti-virus has corrupted your operating system.8-((

However the laptop should have a recovery partition on drive D, check your manual on how to access that in order to re-set the pc back to factory condition.

Once you have done that you can try the AVG install again.

Computer Fan Broken Help!!!?

Ok I have a MSI laptop and one day I move it onto my lap while it was on and it started making a loud wierd sound so I turned it off. I turned it back on and it was still making the sound so I go to “start windows normally” and it took a while then the screen flashed blue and brought me back to the choices. This time I went to repair and it told me it had to delete everything on my C drive, I would do that if its sure to fix it but i didn’t know, so I turned it off. Then the next day I brought it to my computer teacher and he said that its the fan and it since my computer kept burning out in the past it made the computer messed up. He told me to contact MSI and ask them to replace the fan. The problem is its an MSI computer but I bought it off Newegg and it dosn’t have a warranty. I don’t really know what to do right now and I can’t let this one broke I just broke a $800 laptop a year ago and this one is a $700 one. I just need to know what to do please help.
Is there a certain size fan? A certain one I need? Those are the details I mean.

danielday answers:

Lets’s hope that the problem described is just a fan problem. I don’t why you would have received a message that the C drive had to be formatted. Sure doesn’t sound like a fan problem to me. Ask some of your computer savvy friends what they think. Any “gamer” would know a lot about a fan problem. Also ask around some of your friends who may be a “computer geek” and see if they have any experience with replacing a fan on a laptop computer. Laptops are a bit more complicated to work on than a desktop due to their size and getting inside. If it is a fan problem, that’s probably one of the cheaper repairs you can make. If nobody has a clue, go to the nearest computer repair shop and ask their opinion and get an estimate for repairs. Good luck!

Laptop floor model. Has been dropped. Should I still buy it?

MSI CX600.
Original price $744.77 CAD
Clearance price $599.77 CAD

My friend is a manager at one of the PC Cyber stores and showed me that PC. Apparently a customer dropped the last model which I’m assuming is the floor model. They sent it away to be repaired or replaced and it came back in about 10 days instead of the full 2 weeks.

I asked what was done with it, he said either replaced the outer shell if everything tested okay or just replaced the entire laptop.

PC Cyber seems to be a little on the unprofessional side and I could see them lying to me about what was done to it. How do I find out if it’s a direct replacement and would you buy a laptop with such a history?

Thanks
Yeah I think it’d still the the full warranty.. with MSI it’s 2 years I believe. But I just need some way to find out what was done to it.. in of a direct replacement

danielday answers:

Don’t waste your money. Think of it this way, even with a full warranty, any time your laptop is sent for service you risk loosing all your data, and you are without a laptop for weeks. For a laptop that has been dropped, you could end up sending this thing off so many times, you will end up paying so much for shipping (your PC shop will NOT pay for shipping to a manufacturer, by the way), that you could have just paid full price for a laptop to begin with, and not had any down time.

Its not worth the risk.

yea they did change it to ddr5 i think

danielday answers:

The GPU on the MSI might have changed to the ddr5 instead of the ddr3. I just preoder the gx740 the msi 640 is a great system also. It has a 1 year acidental and 3 year parts lifetime labor. That is a great warrenty.

With me I usually look at specs in this order:
GPU (video card)
CPU
All the rest can be upgraded fairly easly, hdd, ram, etc.

Everything else can be easly upgraded later on. Most video cards (even if replaceable) Are proprietary to the system and by the time you want to upgrade you can’t. So me personally I buy the best GPU I can for the money the rest is secondary (if you are looking to game primarely)

The MSI has a better screen, the resolution is lower on the ASUS, and if they do infact change it to ddr5 on the 5850, it will be a much better graphics card. I almost bought this very one, but I thought it had ddr3 on the video card so I went with the msi GX740. Now they are talking about changing it back to the ddr5.

Yes it should be. The i5 is a good processor. If I were you I’d go for an i5 460m instead though, that’s what I have, gives you the higher clock speed. The i5 430 is 2.26 ghz at stock, mine is 2.53 ghz at stock (2.8 ghz turbo boost)

If you want something for gaming though that will be good for awhile I’d really suggest a desktop though. I have a 5650 Radeon in my laptop which is ok, but my desktop 5850 is about 4 times as powerful

if so how good?

danielday answers:

Well, it depends on the gaming. Games like Bioshock, and Left 4 Dead, as well as WoW, would look great on there, but newer more benchmark oriented games, will have problems, and there is no way to ever play them on that laptop the way they were meant to be played. There will also be no upgrade options for something like that. If you are really into gaming, and need to play each sequel to Crysis, you may want to look more towards a desktop, which can be upgraded for years, until all parts become obsolete, or you may just be a simple gamer, and appreciate the latter, so go with the one you like as they both do well.

danielday answers:

I don’t know if you want to do this or not, but I have heard from friends it works.

If you are unsure about it not getting fixed, you can take a some-what powerful magnet and run it all over the bottom of the laptop (not the screen because that makes it obvious) and it will clear data from the hard drive and mess up other stuff yielding it non-functional.

But that’s if you are truely in doubt.

I take back my suggestion, don’t do that! I really just wanted to comment on how your (new?) tattoo is pretty cool.

danielday answers:

While laptop technology is slowly catching up to desktops, you are better off getting a high end desktop to game. For that amount of money, you could buy a desktop only for gaming, and purchase a cheaper laptop to take with you when you want to run. You’d have two computers for the price of one. Just my recommendation.

If you only want one, then yes, that laptop would be suitable to play mid range games (not as graphic intensive). The newer games that have just come out and the ones to come out soon are really hard on graphic’s cards and CPU. The problem with buying a laptop for gaming is that it’s very difficult to upgrade when the newest, latest, and greatest technology comes out. Desktops give you all the flexibility you could want.

The laptop you’ve listed is quite expensive, and you are paying a premium for the 17″ display and the Vid card. Everything else can be found in a much cheaper system.

If you are bent on getting a laptop, I would check out Sager Notebooks as well. They can be found at www.sagernotebook.com.

Crysis takes a beast to run. And laptop graphics cards are pretty weak. I have a 9800gts and it can run it on high as long as the resolution isnt full 1080p. You might be able to run it, but itll have to be on really low settings. Try games that are more about the experience like Counterstrike or World of Warcraft.

Which one will last me longer? The main thing holding me back from the msi is the cpu. I’m just afraid the dual core won’t be able to handle the software of a few years from now. And usb 2.0 will be my bottle neck in a few years.

danielday answers:

The i7 is quad while the i5 is a dual core. Depending on the clock speed, the i5 could be faster if it’s high enough, or the i7 if the clock is decent. I would go with the Asus, simply because with hyperthreading, you’ll have a future proof beast of a machine, though the MSI is all around better. Kind of contradictory.

If you want a multitasking beast. Asus. If you want a multitasking, gaming beast with better cooling built in. MSI.

Scratch that. Go with MSI.

Is this laptop good for HD video editing and rendering?

Hi, i currently have a 4 month old MSI laptop with Intel core i5 processor, 4GB of ram and shared Intel HD graphics. My question is will these Specs be enough for what i do, i am constantly editing, converting and rendering HD video using Sony Vegas and xilisoft video converter. I know the i5 is pretty good, but will the graphics card handle my tasks for about 2-3 years! I Buyed the laptop roughly 4 months ago! Please guys i want a direct answer, no recommendations to others topics or sites!
Thank you.

danielday answers:

I5 processor, but what speed?
It will surely be enough for some time with this amount of RAM (I work in new Vegas with 1.6 GHz and 512 RAM – don’t ask how, lol), but no one can predict what the companies will push into the market in 2-3 years.
If your processor is somewhere between 2GHz and 3GHz, it should do fairly well in next two years, maybe even more, for these tasks. Less and I don’t think it would do for such period, at least not without very slow rendering. But I’m only guessing, based on my own experiences, I’m no expert really. That’s most I can tell you, hope it helps

Are Alienware laptops good?

Hey, looking to buy a new laptop, good for high end multimedia processing and gaming.
I’m looking at ASUS g73, Acer Ethos 8943g and Alienware Mx17 as my main three choices within my price range. I know brands like Metabox and MSI offer things like a 940x processor, but I just don’t have the money to go that high.

So I was wondering, is Alienware good? I’ve been reading a lot of customer complaints, but then there are some people who claim to be the lucky lot and have had no problems with theirs. What are your opinions on Alienware? Is it really worth all that money for something so likely to break?
All kinds of feedback appreciated

danielday answers:

Honestly out of all 3 of those laptops id go with the ASUS g73. Its cheaper than an alienware and it has depending on the model your getting, 6gb of ram, an i7, and a 5870.
Now ive been looking at an m17x for my next laptop to. Im only doing that and not getting the asus because they offer dual 5870s in the alienware. If you want that then go alienware, but if your fine with a single 5870, definitely go with the ASUS.

Also, i bought an alienware m11x and its the best ultra portable laptop i have ever bought. Its built very good and theres not much crap ware on it. Hopefully this helps.

NEVER BUY AN ACER. They are horrible computers and from a horrible computer company.

The prices is about the same the biggest difference is msi is 320G and Asus 500G.
Now my sister has an msi and is very good because it never overheats but I don’tknow if asus is a better option, what do you think?
im asking because i saw this magazine yesterday with tiny laptops. 10″ screens by MSI and Asus. i already have the asus eee pc. but this is the very first gen eee pc so the screen is really tiny. if i could get the 10″ screen, things would be a lot easier. no more scrolling sideways lol. MSI is 15 percent cheaper than the asus brand. both running on windows. sorry i don’t have the complete specs memorized for both..

Once again I would like to make clear that I did install all drivers before the format and I believe the reason that it didn’t work was because the wireless internet button already was binded to a command from the MSI motherboard.

Thanks for the help
